A tea-length bridesmaid dress is one that falls between the bottom of the knee and the bottom of the calf (about three or four inches above the ankle). It is generally considered the “in-between” length, as it falls between the cocktail-length dress and the full-length dress. Tea-length bridesmaid dresses are ideal for semi-formal and casual weddings. They are versatile and attractive on most figures; consequently, tea-length bridesmaid dresses have become increasingly popular in recent years.

Tea-length bridesmaid dresses are especially appropriate for an outdoor spring or summer wedding, whether the wedding is set in a garden, on a mountain, or on the beach. They help set the tone of a wedding that is designed to be elegant and fun at the same time. In addition, a tea-length dress made with a soft material reflects the fluidity of nature and adds a romantic touch to the wedding.

Happy Dragon Boat Festival!

5/27/09 5:43 PM

Dragon Boat Festival 5th day of the 5th lunar monthQu Yuan

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar. It is one of the most important Chinese festivals, the other two being the Autumn Moon Festival and Chinese New Year.

The origin of this summer festival centers around a scholarly government official named Chu Yuan. He was a good and respected man, but because of the misdeeds of jealous rivals he eventually fell into disfavor in the emperor's court.

Unable to regain the respect of the emperor, in his sorrow Chu Yuan threw himself into the Mi Low river. Because of their admiration for Chu Yuan, the local people living adjacent to the Mi Lo River rushed into their boats to search for him while throwing rice into the waters to appease the river dragons.

Although they were unable to find Chu Yuan, their efforts are still commemorated today during the Dragon Boat Festival.

Dragon Boat race
Traditions At the center of this festival are the dragon boat races. Competing teams drive their colorful dragon boats forward to the rhythm of beating drums. These exciting races were inspired by the villager's valiant attempts to rescue Chu Yuan from the Mi Lo river. This tradition has remained unbroken for centuries.

Tzung Tzu
A very popular dish during the Dragon Boat festival is tzung tzu. This tasty dish consists of rice dumplings with meat, peanut, egg yolk, or other fillings wrapped in bamboo leaves. The tradition of tzung tzu is meant to remind us of the village fishermen scattering rice across the water of the Mi Low river in order to appease the river dragons so that they would not devour Chu Yuan.

Ay Taso
The time of year of the Dragon Boat Festival, the fifth lunar moon, has more significance than just the story of Chu Yuan. Many Chinese consider this time of year an especially dangerous time when extra efforts must be made to protect their family from illness. Families will hang various herbs, called Ay Tsao, on their door for protection. The drinking of realgar wine is thought to remove poisons from the body. Hsiang Bao are also worn. These sachets contain various fragrant medicinal herbs thought to protect the wearer from illness.

Supercard DS(One)

4/1/09 12:25 AM

Supercard DS(One) Review
Supercard DS(One) Review Supercard DS(One) Review
Introduction & Packaging

Well my review unit for the Supercard DS turned up today from kicktrading.ca. It's very exciting for me because I have stuck with one DS solution for such a long time so this should hopefully open my eyes to other possibilities.

Supercard has produced many solutions for the DS and in the past has provided very solid products with great backing. They provide quick updates to software and firmware and are very highly regarded in the DS Scene.

The unit is supplied in a standard cardboard box, with a plastic inlay which holds the cartridge. Nothing else is included in the box. It doesn't include an information leaflet or a driver CD. I think maybe they could have included a small info sheet and perhaps the current OS so the user could get up and running without having to fine the download on the internet. On the whole the packaging was very professional but definitely lacking in other areas.

Anyway, the box protects the goods very well and that’s all that matters.

Box Contents

  • 1x SC DS

I confirm you didn’t misread anything:

All you get when you have a glimpse inside the package is the SuperCard, no bundled micro SD card reader or carrying case, not even a CD with software is included. This certainly pales in comparison to the R4 or M3S 1st batch which shipped with lots of goodies.

On a second look however, one can read a “brief manual” on the side of the box:

  • 1. Copy the files into the microSD card, and insert it into the SuperCard DS

  • 2. Insert SuperCard DSinto NDS/NDSL.

  • 3. Turn on the power, that’s it.

The back of the box provides a list of features which includes

- Plug and Play (No Passme / Flashme or GBA Cart required)

- 100% Clean Rom support

- No PC Software Required, just drag and drop

- Hardware Save Support

- Unlimited storage supporting FAT / FAT32

- High speed R/W system without slowdown

- Compatible with all future DS models

- Fully Upgradeable Micro Firmware support and Skinning Capabilities

and a quick trip to www.supercard.cn has another similar list. I say similar because it would appear the list is more detailed. But I suppose the product is not being bought by people browsing through a retail shop so that can all be forgiven. Here are the main features as listed

Main Features:

   1. Plug 'n Play(No FlashMe, No PassMe, No convert).
   2. 100% Clean Rom Support. 100% game compatibility.
   3. No PC software required, just Drag 'n Drop file from PC to flash memory card.
   4. Hardware save support. Easy to backup and exchange save with other players.
   5. Support FAT/FAT32 up to 32Gbits flash memory card. Flash memory card can be used on other digital products, save money.
   6. Blue-Light engine included. Support High speed flash memory card without any slow down.
   7. DS original cartridge size, the perfect solution of slot 1.
   8. TFlash/MicroSD slot Push'n Push design, easy to use.
   9. Micro firmware designed, and extended skin which is fully upgradeable.
  10. MoonShell built-in design. Can play MP3, Ogg and DPG2 directly in SuperCard DS system. Compatible with DPG0/DPG1. It also support eBook and view picture. It's a real multimedia system.
  11. TWO mode design:
           - Standard mode: 100% Capability when copy clear roms into MicroSD for playing directly
           - Super mode: support RESET, cheat code, save to flash memory card directly...

Hardware

The Cart itself is very solid. To me it looks and feels like a exact replica of an original DS cart. Very solid and does not bend or creak. Even without the MicroSD card inserted, the space around it is very well supported.

As it's the same size as a commercial DS Cartridge, it has a nice flush fit as demonstrated in the above picture. It's amazing what they can cram into such a small place. As you can see the MicroSD card is loaded at the top of the card so the DS Cartridge does not need to be removed to gain access to your MicroSD card. The MicroSD card is spring mounted so no need to worry about it slipping out a-la Supercard Lite.

The Micro SD slot being spring loading, it’s pretty easy to remove but there’s absolutely no risk of dropping it by mistake because the card is locked firmly inside the card reader. Spring loading Micro SD cards are a welcome idea as there’s no need to remove the card to fill it with binaries or format it, all you have to do is press the micro SD card firmly to have pop out & hook it up to the PC: hassle free.
If you happen to take the card apart, to have a glimpse at its internals, you’ll be surprised to notice that the card has a dry cell battery that temporarily stores savers till next reboot, at that time the loader would write the file to the micro SD. This only happens when running roms in clean mode.

Software

Since the package doesn’t ship with the required software, you won’t be able to use right away which unfortunately hampers its ease of use for the end user.

One has to go online and download the required appropriate OS Loader as the SC DS won’t boot without burning it to the microSD card.

Aside from the OS Loader, here’s a list of what you need in order to be ready to use the SC DS:

  • SC DS
  • Preferably a Micro SD card manufactured in Japan for optimal performance.
  • Micro SD card reader

Don’t forget to visit the SuperCard DS one Software Homepage in order to fetch the latest OS Loader as it is needed to boot the card.

The following all tests were conducted using a Sandisk 1GB MicroSD Ultra II card.

First thing I did was grab the latest software from the downloads section and proceeded to upgrade the firmware (Or OS in this case). I formatted my MicroSD card with FAT32. The software comes in the form of a zip file that needs to be extracted onto the root of the MicroSD card. It contains an NDS file and a scshell folder. Easy as pie for users with Microsoft Windows 2000 or above. An SD Card driver for Windows 98 is downloadable from their website. It's got clean rom support so it's just a matter of copy and pasting .NDS files which is great. No need for patching software.

One small gripe I have, is that where it's great having removable media, I run Linux which doesn't have great support for SD Card readers, meaning I need to boot back into Windows to copy data across. Not sure what the support is like for Macs.

I booted it on my NDS Lite and it booted into a modified version of Moonshell v1.41. However on each boot I am presented with the following error screen. It's a MoonShell error that I get on my other Slot-1 solution and as far as I know it's safe to ignore.

Looks very slick and a screenshot of the default menu is below.

Here is the same menu once populated:

A property box is always opened as soon as the directory listing comes up. Not a huge hassle but a little annoying for me. It shows the information for the currently highlighted folder or file. While is does show a lot of information it sits in front of the file listing which means it's a bit awkward to navigate. Also when this box is up it sits in front of the menus as well which isn't great either though it can be removed by pressing the X button.

Boasting the same great touch screen capabilities of Moonshell it is a very useable system and as with Moonshell very skinnable.

As you can see it grabs the icon file from the NDS file but it doesn't grab the header. Instead it just lists the filename which as you can see with me, some of my backups are named correctly and some have scene names. When the property box is open it will correctly display the first 20 characters of the Rom Name but no more. This rom name seems to be controlled by the OS rather than reading the rom header as the new Diddy Kong Racing (Released after the latest OS update) is not correctly named. When scrolling through a number of .NDS files it is fairly slow so hopefully your most frequently used item is at the bottom of the list. Once again a little annoying and frustrating and hopefully some of these are put right as it seems from a hardware point of view they have a very strong product.

There are 4 menus across the top of the screen which I will detail below.

Saver Menu

The Saver menu is very basic. You can manually change the size of the .SAV file to 4K / 64K / 512K / 2M /4M. The .SAV situation is explained in more detail further down the page.

Other Menu

Enable GBA Union - Links Slot-1 and Slot-2 for unlockable content
Set SC to Rumble Mode - Enables use of a Slot-2 Rumble device
Display Chinese Name - Displays the Chinese Name.
Save Menu Option - Saves your current settings for future use.
SuperKey - Enables SuperKey use for booting Slot-2 devices.
AUTO Set SD Speed - Runs a Test program to determine MicroSD card speed.
Enable Patch - Enables Universal Patch options which include Cheats, Reset etc.

I only used 2 of the functions properly. The Save Menu Option saves the settings you have applied to the layout etc. The other option I used was Enable Patch (To disable it for Tony Hawk Downhill Jam). However it looks like the Enable Patch is universal so it can't be set for individual games. This option enables the clean roms on your MicroSD card to be patched with the following options

- Normal Read / Fast Read
- SaverIN DS / SaverIN SD
- Enable Reset
- Enable Cheat

I found that the intro for Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow runs laggy when normal read is set, but perfectly when fast read is enable. The Reset option also works. But as I mentioned I believe its easier to just left this option disabled unless you need it for compatibility.

Option Menu

ICO Modality - Can set to Big ICOs, Small ICOs and a plain text directory listing
File Sort - Can sort files by name or modified date
Language - Language can be set to either English or Chinese
SD Speed - Manually set the SD Card speed
File Info - Brings up the File Property box
About - Displays Moonshell Info

Help Menu

Displays the Moonshell help menu. Not sure it provides a lot of information but is does make the top menu list a nice round figure of 4.

Another small problem I had was that it only takes one click to launch an .NDS file. So no double tapping here. A bit annoying so please be careful when trying to select your .NDS files. Also a loading indicator is not shown (a dialog is present if the property box is active) so there is really no way to know this has happened until suddenly you file loads.

As I mentioned the gui is a modified Moonshell. Which means it supports bmp, txt documents and mp3s etc from with the menu. It supports playing music while you browse your MicrosSD card. However playing a 192kbps mp3 whilst looking through my directories results in a very unpleasant experience. Sounds okay when you are not moving between items, but if you are it skips a bit. Maybe they could enable the midi plugin and have some selectable music.

You can download the Supercard DS Software from here that provides patching options for your "clean roms". However I haven't used the software and I believe with the new OS Version this is fairly obsolete now. Either way it's there as an option. Below are a couple of standard screenshots.

Bad thing is they have used the same software as they use for the supercard lite by the looks of it with GBA patching options when you can´t even play gba roms on the supercard DS. Are they trying to confuse new people or what. To be honest, they should probably just pull that download as all the patching can be done on the DS itself.

Note: Kingston & Toshiba entered a strategic alliance for over a decade now & are worldwide partners in the memory segment. Since 2000, Kingston provides Toshiba with memory modules Hence this explains why both their micro SD modules are alike in term of performance.

 Download Play / Single-cart Multiplayer

Even though SuperCard didn’t make any statement concerning that matter, I did some testing on download play out of curiosity to see for myself where this card stands among its fierce slot-1 competition.
I tested download play functionality between two unflashed DSes, below are the results:

  • 42 All-Time Classics (Club House Games)
    - FAIL: Download play broken.
  • Brain Training
    - PASS: Download play works.
  • Mario Kart DS
    - FAIL: Download play broken.
  • Metroid Prime Pinball
    - PASS: Download play works.
  • Nintendogs Dalmatian & friends Touch & Roll
    - PASS: Download play works.
  • Point Blank
    - PASS: Download play works.
  • Zoo Keeper
    - PASS: Download play works.

The results are fair & much better than I'd have expected, especially since it wasn’t an advertised feature: download play works with some roms while it won’t with some popular ones.

Battery Life Results:

I have performed two series of power consumption tests on the SC DS with two scenarii in mind:

Scenario A:

speakers nearly turned off (sound and music can still be clearly heard, brightness set to default (2) :

• The DS's batteries would run dry after 8 h 35 mns of play.

Scenario B:

Loudest possible sound coming from the speakers with the brightness set to its highest (4):

• The DS's batteries would run dry after 4 h 28 mns of play.

Be aware that power consumption might slightly differ depending on your set up (brightness/loudness) as well as your battery's lifetime (charging it prior to using it the first time is supposed to increase its lifespan).

With nearly twice the playtime compared to slot-2 flashkits in similar conditions, the SC DS & more generally slot-1 development kits are truly power saving which is great news for the end user.

Test condition:

  • Fully charged European Black Nintendo DS Lite
  • SC DS, Toshiba 1 GB micro SD Japan serial number: SD- C01G formatted with FAT32.
  • Super Monkey Ball Touch & Roll's movie looping continuously, would hold into my hand from time to time to play a littl.
  • Tested with two brightness settings (2) & (4), (scenario A and B)
  • Sound at 20 & 100% (scenario A and B)

How does it handle SAV files?

Saves are handled automatically. The Supercard team has a database built into the OS version so any game released before the OS should have an entry thus setting up the SAV file correctly. The SAV files themselves are stored in the same folder as the NDS file it relates to.

For testing purposes I tested the SAV file creation with Diddy Kong Racing (Released after latest OS update) and the SAV file was created perfectly fine.

You can alter it to save on to a DS card which means that if a game does not save,  then fails to save using the force save size, you can then try saving directly to a DS card with the same save size.

The SAV size is displayed when the property box is active or when the ICO Modality is set to Big. The supplied setting (Controlled by the Supercard team) can be overridden but I think I will trust the Supercard team for the moment.

I would like to see perhaps a better solution than the ones they have provided so I will follow this closely.

 Additional Features

The SC DS has plenty of non advertised bonus features, some of which are innovative, while others are somewhat common:

  • The SC DS works as a super key (passme) , in other words, it allows the end user to use the SC to boot slot-2 flashcards.
  • The SC DS can also link DS & GBA games, which means when you have both the NDS & GBA flavor of a given game on the slot-1 & the slot-2 two, you can use that feature to unlock bonus missions, & levels.
  • The SC can be used as a USB pen drive, no drivers are needed to enable this feature, just drag and drop your files to the micro SD card.
  • Since the SC DS is based on FAT16/32 filesytem, you can easily hide unwanted folders such as the shell folder. To do so , one has to tick the hide button by right clicking on the target folder in XP then properties and finally ticking the “hidden” attribute button.
No more need for patching, as the patch data will be bundled in the loader OS.
Last but not least, SC DS’s OS will look for looks for Trojan DS brick A/B prior to launching backup rom, , which means you can safely run homebrew with no fear of bricking your DS.
  • Super mode comes bundled with the OS loader, so there’s no more need to patch the roms using a PC in order to enable soft reset to the loader, cheat or real time save, which is not supported in clean rom mode.
Conclusion

Overall a very solid effort considering it's the first SLOT-1 device released by the Supercard team. It does what it set out to do. It plays the majority of games and homebrew without the need for patching. But to be honest all this is expected from all the SLOT-1 devices released now.

I have a few gripes with the system. I would like the option to individually set each roms patching options on my MicroSD card. That way I don't have to go about trying to remember what settings I used in the previous game. I also didn't like the one click to load an NDS file. It just means that an accidental slip means I have to reset and start again.

The interface they have chosen is not completely functional at the moment, but it offers such great flexibility that I expect a lot more to come of their OS. There are a few little issues but on the whole it uses the touch screen effectively and the added bonus is that you don't need to load up any additional media players.

This card has a lot of potential and I hope it is realised. However in the world of Slot-1 Devices with 100% rom support and near perfect homebrew support the device makers really need to step up to earn your hard earned cash. I'm sure the Supercard team will make a good go of this.

I can't say definitely buy this, but I think it compares well with the R4 DS and the M3 Simply. All 3 have come out recently and I think if you compare all 3 products and the reviews here on this site and others you will find a Slot-1 device that meets all your needs.

It's currently retailing for $54.95 USD over at Kicktrading so it's not an overly expensive product.
PROS

+ 100% rom compatibility
+ Excellent build quality. Card fits flush in the DS and slides in and out as if a commercial card.
+ No patching required, just drag and drop to play 100% of games.
+ MicroSD slot is spring loaded.
+ Supports clean roms
+ Skinnable menu
+ Modified Moonshell Menu enabling Multimedia support
+ Works as a passcard device allowing booting of devices in Slot 2.
+ Homebrew compatibility growing due to DLDI implementations.

CONS

- Minor problems experienced with some games from test.
- Minor UI problems
- Future problems could arise with the current SAV system in place.

DS sales top 96 million as Mario Factory's nine-month earnings hit $17.1 billion; record full-year estimate lowered slightly due to Yen fluctuations but will still be record.

Right now, somewhere in Kyoto, Japan, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata is smiling. Four years after skeptics questioned the Wii's viability, the console is soaring above even the wildest expectations.

"How you like me now""

This morning, the company that spent the last hardware generation bringing up the rear with the GameCube reported that its current console had sold 44.96 million units worldwide as of December 31--a 10 million unit increase from just two months prior. Of those 10 million, more than 4 million were sold in the US, with the NPD Group reporting 2.04 million in November and 2.15 million in December.

The Wii's older but smaller sibling is also faring well. The DS--itself the subject of widespread derision when it went on sale in November 2004--sold 96.22 million units as of the end of last year, pulling further ahead of its predecessor, the Game Boy Advance. The monumental figure comprises all models of the handheld, including 1.66 million units of the DSi, the camera-enabled third hardware revision currently available in Japan.

Though Nintendo makes a profit on hardware, its first-party publishing operation is also reaping riches from software sales. During the last nine months of 2008, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit both sold more than 10 million units worldwide, with 9.4 million copies of Wii Play also passing over store counters. The platform's software total now stands at 312 million as of December 31.

Just say ¥€$ to the DS.

However, the Wii's huge software tally was still behind that of the DS. Boosted by the popularity of Kirby Super Star Ultra and the Japan-only release of Pokemon Platinum, some 163.78 million DS games were sold last year, pushing its software sales to the 533 million-unit mark as the New Year's Eve champagne corks popped.

Naturally, record sales mean record profits for Nintendo. In the nine months preceding December 31, the company racked up net sales of ¥1.536 trillion ($17.12 billion), a 17 percent year-on-year increase. Operating profits for the period were ¥501 billion ($5.58 billion)--a 27 percent increase--with net profits of ¥212.5 billion ($2.36 billion).

Unfortunately, the rising strength of the yen means that Nintendo's success abroad doesn't translate as well at home. As a result, Nintendo is revising its annual earnings estimates down 9 percent to a still-record ¥1.82 trillion ($20.2 billion). Forecasts for operating profit were cut 36 percent to 530 billion ($5.90 billion), with net profit trimmed back 33 percent to 230 billion ($2.56 billion).
