Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. has released the CONSULT-III, (*1) a hand-held diagnostic testing equipment for servicing Nissan in-vehicle electronic systems, with the aim of realising swift and accurate diagnosis and repairs at Nissan dealerships worldwide. The diagnostic tester will be introduced at Nissan dealerships in Japan and other global markets. The progressive launch of the new system will coincide with the release of the new Skyline sedan in Japan in late 2006, and other global markets which sell the Infiniti G35.   Subsequently, the Consult III will be progressively introduced to all of the remaining markets as the next generation of Nissan vehicles are released.
 
The timely and precise diagnosis of a vehicle problem has become increasingly complex as more intricate electronic hardware is an intrinsic part of new vehicles.  There has also been a remarkable increase in the number of computers connected to the vehicle's Controller Area Network (CAN). In the past 5 years, the number of computer systems installed in modern vehicles has doubled from only 8 or so in 2001. The CONSULT-III has been designed to address these complex and advanced in-vehicle electronic devices, maximising diagnostic precision, improving repair time and quality and futher reducing service times and costs for Nissan customers..
 
The basic diagnostic system is composed of the main unit which is housed in a durable and rugged laptop PC, a wireless vehicle communication interface and wireless measurement interface; the laptop PC and each interface is connected via Bluetooth technology. Through a wireless LAN, this diagnostic system can be connected to the Nissan network in Japan, enabling the dealerships to retrieve information from various sources and display service technology data on the laptop PC.

The selection of CAN type as well as the identification of malfunction locations are completely automated, allowing CAN diagnosis to be done 17 times faster than previous method where the diagnostics system needed to be supplemented by the service manuals. Repairs involving reprogramming of the in-vehicle computer can be completed 1.5 to 2.5 times faster with the new system.

The system is able to perform accurate diagnosis without having to rely on the diagnostic skills of technical staff at the dealership.

At dealerships in Japan, it is possible to access the Nissan network to retrieve both the maintenance technology data related to the diagnosis results and spot adequate information on service manual. The dealerships are also able to access their service database and refer to the vehicle maintenance history on the laptop PC.

Product Detail:
On vehicle models from the E65 on, BMW is for the first time using fibre-optic cables as standard for communication between control units. The optical buses are notable for their high data transmission rate and they are not susceptible to electromagnetic interference. The optical buses in question are the MOST bus, primarily used for in-car entertainment electronics, and the byteflight bus, which serves predominantly safety-critical functions.

OPPS has been designed for encoding, individualising and programming (CIP) via the Software Service Station (SSS) and envisaged for use as part of the BMW diagnostic system (DIS) from DISPlus and Group Tester One (GT1). It is intended for testing and programming tasks from the E65 series, taking the place of the diagnostic head.

OPS is intended for rapid programming of control units.
When operated at the SSS, no diagnostic or technical measuring pro-cedures are possible, as no measuring technology is incorporated; in this instance, OPPS / OPS is used predominantly for programming control units (flashing). Communication with the vehicle can be performed both via the MOST and via the OBD interface. The OBD interface is required for the power supply to the OPPS / OPS and has communication properties via which the vehicle can be identified and the data to be programmed can be determined. From CIP version 7.0, it is possible to delete fault code memories via OPPS / OPS.

Applications
Even if you don't repair the vehicle yourself, knowing the Diagnostic Trouble Code number before taking the vehicle in for repair the less likely you will be ripped off. Once the vehicle is repaired, the Diagnostic Trouble Code(s) can be erased and the Check Engine light extinguished using this scan tool.
In area that requires a smog test, an illuminated Check Engine light fails the emission test, even if the repaired vehicle might otherwise pass inspection. This OBD II Scan Tool extinguishes the Check Engine light.
Another highly useful application for the scan tool is purchasing used vehicles. Used vehicles can have all sorts of expensive mechanical or electrical problems. Does My Car Have OBD-II?
All cars and light trucks built and sold in the United States after January 1, 1996 were required to be OBD II equipped. In general, this means all 1996 model year cars and light trucks are compliant, even if built in late 1995.
Two factors will show if your vehicle is definitely OBD II equipped:
1) There will be an OBD II connector as shown below, and
2) There will be a note on a sticker or nameplate under the hood: "OBD II compliant".
Where is the connector located?
The connector must be located within three feet of the driver and must not require any tools to be revealed. Look under the dash and behind ashtrays.
The Three Flavors of OBD II
While the parameters, or readings, required by OBD II regulations are uniform, the auto manufacturers had some latitude in the communications protocol they used to transmit those readings to scanners. Naturally, each felt they had the one true way, so I have three different OBD II communications protocols in use.
The big scanner consoles costing thousands of dollars include the decoding software and firmware for all three protocols in their units, making them universal. Less expensive units, for home or small shop use, are usually customized for a specific communications protocol. Be sure the scanner you are using suits the protocol of your car.
What Communications Protocol does my vehicle use?
As a rule of thumb, GM cars and light trucks use SAE J1850 VPW (Variable Pulse Width Modulation). Chrysler products and all European and most Asian imports use ISO 9141 circuitry. Fords use SAE J1850 PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) communication patterns.
There are some variations among captive imports such as the Cadillac Catera, a German Opel derivative, which uses the European ISO 9141 protocol.
On 1996 and later vehicles, you can tell which protocol is used by examining the OBD II connector:
J1850 VPW--The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 2, 4, 5, and 16, but not 10.
ISO 9141-2--The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 4, 5, 7, 15, and 16.
J1850 PWM--The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 2, 4, 5, 10, and 16.
J1939 Can Bus--The connector should have metallic contacts in pins 4,5,6,14, and 16.
If your vehicle has this style connector, but doesn't have these pins populated, you probably have a pre-OBDII vehicle. To add some confusion, even having the connector with the contacts shown above is not a guarantee of OBD II compliance. This style connector has been seen on some pre-1996 vehicles which were not OBD II compliant.

The Autel MaxiDiag US703 is an innovative multifunctional scan tool created for technicians who need a single tool suitable for both the general troubleshooting of Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) on OBD-II/EOBD compliant vehicles, and more focused work on GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles. Powered by Autel Uni-SCAN technology, the US703 supports all current OBD-II/EOBD protocols, including CAN (Controller Area Network), and provides engine, transmission, ABS and airbag systems code support for GM models 1984-2006, Ford 1984-2006 and Chrysler 1988-2006. Car Data Recorder(CDRecorder) is a remote auto diagnostic tool newly developed by UIF for the DIY.
1,To collect the data engine data when run on the road, including engine ignition time, fuel adjust, rotate speed of the engine and read out trouble code

Installment procedures
Software installment procedure
Firstly, run Cardata_Recorder.exe directly?see softinstall1.bmp?, choose the install route(see softinstall2.bmp). When this done, build a new folder named Car data _Recorderin the disk which you have just chosen(see softinstall0.bmp).
When succeeded in installing the software,use USB to connect Cardata_Recorder with the computer, you will be automatically reminded as the following.
1) Find new hardware
2) Install the driver (see driverinstall1.bmp, driverinstall2.bmp, driverinstall3.bmp,)
3) The driver has finished being installed and can run now.
The Cardata_Recorder software and driver have been installed till now.
Normally Cardata_Recorder client terminal software can be run in Windows 2000, NT, ME, XP. If this can not realized, please check if Car Data Recorder does not match with some unidentified USB drivers (such as Printer).In this situation, please download the unidentified USB driver in advance.

The memory for software and data is implemented as a programmable component into ECUs for a long time now. Ever since these components are erasable even as an assembled part of the ECU more and more vehicle manufacturers chose to provide the possibility to re-load / replace the software and data contents of the respective control unit in addition to the analysis and error detection mechanisms.

By doing so vehicle manufacturers achieve the ability to work knowledge found after the production has started into already delivered cars resp. their ECUs.
With the help of this interface the tuning technician is able to load a modified file into the ECU without the previously unavoidable hassle of mechanical jobs on that very unit.

As practical as this is, it's also a tricky business:
not every ECU allows reading out its data via this service interface
one easily can overwrite a tuning file while carrying out an inspection
no simulation possible; therefor only restricted suitability for research purposes
an actual vehicle is essential - stand-alone ECU is problematic
The SPI is a co-development by us and the english company Superchips, who offer their own tuning files with a similar system. But if you need to load your own files serially we can offer you the independent EVC SPI system for reading from and writing to ECUs.

In order to program an ECU one needs a customer key besides the software, an adapter box and the connection cable. When programming the ECU for the first time the customer key is being permanently linked to the respective car's VIN (vehicle identification number). Thus this programming process can be done as often as you want but the next car will need a blank customer key.

Due to this licensing method the further development of other car types is ensured while the basically equipped versions can be kept rather affordable.

Depending on the ECU the read out files resp. the tuning files to program have another length than the eprom. Furthermore an identification must be put into the tuning file. Both can have the result that the checksum can be corrected only with WinOLS.

Recommendations for the use of SPI:
Operating system: Win98, WinME, Win2000, WinXP
Ports: parallel, serial( adaptor SPI105 doesn't work on all cars )
Coding (SPI200 / SPI230): With the help of the supplied coding program you are able to encrypt your tuning files and deliver it together with coded customer keys to your retailer. So your know how is protected and you have control over the number of tuned cars.

This CMD CAN Flasher V1251  read and write flash memory via the diagnostic connector on the CAN line of computers with motor MED9.1, MED9.5, EDC16U3x/CP, EDC16CP31, EDC16CP36, EDC16C3 and EDC16C9 fuel injection. Working through CAN, not on K line.
